Questions to ask yourself before committing to a specific Amazon store script:
- Are you able to install and maintain your site easily?
Unless you are really determined and capable of solving your own problems, then the script should be easy to install and maintain. - Is this script well supported? Will you get your question or problem resolved in a timely manner?
It had better be well supported. I had found out the hard way that a script that is buggy or web host that isn’t playing nice with your script can cause all sorts of problems. Make sure that you can get your questions correctly answered reasonably fast and . - Is it continuing to be developed?
You want a script that is continuing to be developed. For example, Google continues to change what and how rank pages. Or, Amazon could change how they share their data. You want a script that evolves with the times. - Is the design of your site, based upon the script, customizable?
It should allow you to make a unique and customer-friendly web site design. You don’t want your site to look like every other store out there, using your script. - Is it using an old script language?
I would stay away from scripts built on Perl or other older languages. They may run into problems as browsersand other languages continue to evolve. Will that older store script still work a year from now? - Is it SEO-friendly? In other words, will the search engines more likely display your pages at the top of the search results, because it is Search Engine Optimized?
The script needs to be SEO-friendly, otherwise you are just wasting your time. - Does it allow you create your own customized descriptions of each product?
This is part of being Search Engine Optimized (SEO-friendly). You need to be able to customize the descriptions and other information being supplied by Amazon. - Does the script allow your customer to add products to a shopping cart, for a purchase via Amazon?
This is really important to getting good conversions. You want your customer to stay on your site as long as they are ordering products. Then, be directed to Amazon, with their shopping basket contents, for completion of their order. - Is the script expensive? Will you ever see enough profit to pay for the cost of the script and your hosting fees?
Sometimes free isn’t such a good thing. But on the other side, you probably don’t want to spend a fortune on a script and never be able to recoup your money in a reasonable time.
